Sisters Folk Festival Winter Concert Series @ Sisters High School Auditorium
7:00 pm – 9:00 pm

Sisters Folk Festival Winter

Thursday, January 9: The California Honeydrops will return to Sisters after a rousing 2013 festival appearance. Drawing heavily on Southern soul and Bay-area R&B with a twist of New Orleans second-line street music, the Honeydrops defy genres. Their style may not have a name, but one thing is certain: The California Honeydrops don’t just play music; they throw parties.

Saturday, March 1: The incomparable Willy Porter will bring his inventive guitar-playing, passionate songwriting and entertaining stage-show back to Sisters. Porter continues to amaze with heavy guitar-driven instrumentals, heartfelt and insightful lyrics, and absolute humor in his loop-effect stories about the underbelly of society.

Tuesday, March 18: The return of Welsh singer-songwriter Martyn Joseph, a favorite of both the festival and the 2012 winter concerts. Considered a “courageous” live entertainer, Martyn follows in the tradition of social protest and commentary with intimate portrayals of the human condition. His songs reflect a 30-year career with 31 albums and thousands of live performances.

Saturday, March 29: To conclude the series, the festival will present a multi-media performance by the Celtic super-group, Solas. “Irish-America’s most influential band,” according to NPR, will perform as they celebrate the release of Shamrock City, their 11th album and most ambitious project and live show to date. It is a family story of immigration, mining and murder, and the remarkable history of Michael Conway and Butte, Montana.

Doors open at 6:30pm.

SAT MAY 17 – AFTERNOON CONCERT

“The Moon Mountain Ramblers”, continues the Deschutes Concert Series this Saturday. At first glance, the Ramblers may look like a traditional bluegrass band, with the classic instrumentation of fiddle, mandolin, acoustic guitar and upright bass. However, with the addition of full percussion and musical inspirations with no boundaries, this band has truly found their own unique niche in the world of acoustic music and were voted the “Best Band in Central Oregon” in 2004, 2008 and 2009 by The Source Weekly. Enjoy the live music with your favorite beverage in our outdoor snow lounge (weather permitting)

SAT MAY 24 – AFTERNOON CONCERT

The party continues with Yogoman Burning Band taking the stage for the Deschutes Brewery Concert Series during Brewski & closing weekend. The band hails from Planet Yog, where vibrant and nonsensical dance moves are commonplace. Beginning with a range of musical genres including classic rock, hip hop, soul to punk, DJ Yogoman found a love for Jamaican music, with its playful, laid-back, yet intense, and steadily danceable rhythms. Kick back or get up and dance as you enjoy the funky melodies of Yogoman Burning Band this Saturday at Mt. Bachelor.

Fermentation Celebration @ Old Mill District

Fermentation Celebration 2014

The Fermentation Celebration is a nod to our amazing craft beer industry in Central Oregon. Not only do our 30+ local breweries have a tremendous economic impact on the community, but they produce some of the best craft beer in the world.

To enjoy the event, purchase a pint glass and tickets, and meander through all 30 beer stations located throughout Powerhouse Drive in the Old Mill District (immediately across the river from the Les Schwab Amphitheater). At each station you choose to visit, you can purchase a 4 ounce taste (1 taste = 1 ticket). Full pint pours from Deschutes Brewery will be available in Center Plaza.

We will have live music and performances from a variety of local bands/groups througout the event, as well as Central Oregon Beer Angels, the Central Oregon Brewer’s Guild, Central Oregon Homebrewers Association, Visit Bend and more.

The Fermentation Celebration is a family and pet-friendly event, but remember, it is centered around beer.

Pickin’ & Paddlin’ @ Tumalo Creek Kayak & Canoe

Pickin’ & Paddlin’ featuring The Blackberry Bushes

What began as a couple of kayakers pickin’ tunes on the back deck after a long day on the river, has grown into a huge community celebration in to raise funds for the Bend Paddle Trail Alliance and their efforts to transform the Colorado Bridge Dam into Oregon’s first whitewater playpark. Highlights include kayak, canoe and stand up paddle board demos throughout the late afternoon, local and regional acoustic, bluegrass and Americana acts in the evening, microbrews from Bend’s best breweries, food carts, non-profit information tables and more.

With the passage of Bond Measure 9–86 in November of 2012, the majority of funding was secured for Bend Parks & Rec to construct a safe passage for tubers and a whitewater play park in place of the mill-era dam below the Colorado Bridge. The BPTA has promised to raise $900K through grants, fundraising and private donations to fund the whitewater features of the project. Currently they have $300K more to go and they need your help. All funds raised at Pickin’ & Paddlin’ go towards this cause.

Admission: $5 and children 12 and under are free. Pint glasses are $10 and come with two drink tickets for those 21 and older

The June 25th event features The Blackberry Bushes from Port Townsend, WA as well as Quincy Street and solo opener Franchot Tone.

Times:
Demos from 4 – 7 p.m.
The opener begins playing at 5 p.m. and the headliner is done by 9 p.m.

This event is part of the Subaru of Bend Outside Games.

During this month’s Pickin’ & Paddlin’, we’ll also be hosting the 5th Annual Deschutes Wooden Boat Gathering on the backlawn from 4 – 6 p.m. Builders will have the opportunity to meet other builders, talk shop, and swap tips and techniques. If you own a wooden kayak, canoe or SUP bring it down and show off your craft. This is also a great even for those thinking of building a floating wooden object.

Special thanks to Deschutes Brewery and Cascade Lakes Brewing for donating the kegs for this event.
