Paddles are available and non-marking shoes are required. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is two inches lower than tennis, and played with a hard paddle and a polymer, which is a smaller version of a wiffle ball. With a smaller court and slower ball speed, pickleball is much easier to play than tennis.

A little pickleball trivia: the game started during the summer of 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington at the home of Congressman Joel Pritchard. He and two of his friends returned from golf and found their families bored one Saturday afternoon. They attempted to set up badminton but no one could find the shuttlecock. They improvised with a wiffle ball, lowered the badminton net, and fabricated paddles of plywood from a nearby shed. The name is said to have originated by Joan Pritchard, who said it reminded her of the “Pickle Boat crew where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats.”

Crush Cancer with FHC @ Faith, Hope and Charity Vineyards

Crush Cancer

Faith, Hope & Charity Vineyard is hosting a fun run through the farmland of Terrebonne, Oregon. Runners and Walkers will be treated to extraordinary views of on-site vineyards and the Three Sisters Mountains. A post-race celebration will include great music, food, and of course, WINE! Proceeds from the race will benefit Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. For more information on this great organization please visit FredHutch.org.

Packet pick up will take place Saturday, October 11th at Fleet Feet Sports in Bend from 12-5 pm and Sunday, October 12th at Faith, Hope and Charity Vineyard in Terrebonne from 8-10 am. Day-of registration will also be available from 8 to 10AM on October 12th.
