Join us for the 4th Annual Sunriver Marathon for a Cause, Marathon (Boston Qualifier), Two Half Marathons, 10k, 5k, Kid’s Dash, August 30- 31, 2014 in beautiful Sunriver, Oregon. In 2014 we will only have the following Challenge Races: Marathon-Half and Half-Half Challenge Races.

Not a runner or walker? Try speed golf at Caldera Springs Links. There is something for everyone to participate in. All race events start in front of the Sunriver Resort Lodge.The Marathon and Half Marathon (Sunday Course) courses wind through the beautiful high desert landscapes of the three adjoining communities Sunriver, Caldera Springs and Crosswater. The Marathon is a Boston Qualifier. All courses will be USATF Certified.

Sunriver is located just 15 miles south of Bend, Oregon off of Hwy 97.

For the 4th year, our beneficary is the Oregon SW Washington Affiliate of Susan G Komen. Last year we raised over 21K to help women in our region and our goal this year is surpass that. So encourage your friends and family to join us this Labor Day weekend.

Paddles are available and non-marking shoes are required. The sport is played on a court with the same dimensions as a doubles badminton court. The net is two inches lower than tennis, and played with a hard paddle and a polymer, which is a smaller version of a wiffle ball. With a smaller court and slower ball speed, pickleball is much easier to play than tennis.

A little pickleball trivia: the game started during the summer of 1965 on Bainbridge Island, Washington at the home of Congressman Joel Pritchard. He and two of his friends returned from golf and found their families bored one Saturday afternoon. They attempted to set up badminton but no one could find the shuttlecock. They improvised with a wiffle ball, lowered the badminton net, and fabricated paddles of plywood from a nearby shed. The name is said to have originated by Joan Pritchard, who said it reminded her of the “Pickle Boat crew where oarsmen were chosen from the leftovers of other boats.”
