Fishing
Central Oregon is home to over 100 lakes and more than a dozen nationally renowned streams including the famous fly fishing waters of the Deschutes, Metolius and Crooked Rivers.
All of the lakes, as well as the Crane Prairie and Wickiup Reservoirs, are stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Anyone over the age of 14 must have a license to fish in Oregon waters. Licenses are available wherever bait and tackle are sold. Steelhead fishing is available on the lower Deschutes, which is about a one-hour drive north of the resort.

Rafting

The Deschutes River offers some of the best whitewater rafting in the Northwest. In the summer months take an exciting guided tour down the class III and IV rapids, where the beautiful scenery engulfs you and the cool water refreshes you.
The half-day Big Eddy trip, which begins just 20 miles from Eagle Crest, will give you a taste of the whitewater adventure. One, two and three-day excursions beginning about 70 miles from the resort will introduce you to life on the river.

Shopping
From quaint boutiques to regional malls and a brand name Outlet Center, Central Oregon offers a host of shopping options. Remember that Oregon has no sales taxes so your dollars will go further here.

Redmond has a host of shopping options in the downtown area. While you will find ice cream and candy stores, art galleries and clothing shops, Redmond is most known for some of the best antique shopping in the state. You will find over 14 separate antique businesses to browse through to look for treasures or just to enjoy a look at the past.

The western frontier town of Sisters is famous for its many unique shops. From quilt stores to western stores to unique book and home décor stores you are sure to enjoy a day shopping for those special gifts you are seeking.

Bend is the heart of Central Oregon and offers a diverse range of shopping options. Downtown offers an abundance of unique shops as well as many restaurants to enjoy. The Old Mill District just south of downtown offers a variety of name brand shopping. Two malls and a large factory outlet mall round out your shopping options.

Skiing
Mount Bachelor has been called the best ski area in the Northwest and is located just 38 miles from Eagle Crest. From powdery, soft snow to one of the longest ski seasons in the country (typically November- July), Mt. Bachelor has it all...
It is not uncommon for our guests to ski in the morning and play golf in the afternoon! The mountain provides a vertical drop of 3,365 feet, has 13 lifts and 70 runs to match any skill level. Mt. Bachelor also offers 56 kilometers of cross-country trails. A great family outing is a day playing at the new tubing park at Mt. Bachelor.

Hoodoo Ski Bowl, located on the Santiam Pass, has five lifts with a vertical drop of 1,035 feet. Hoodoo also offers 15.8 kilometers of groomed cross-country trails and is located only 35 miles from Eagle Crest. Eagle Crest offers a variety of ski packages throughout the winter and we also run a shuttle bus to Mt. Bachelor daily during the season.

Hiking and Climbing
With the enormous Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests in our backyard, Central Oregon is home to hundreds of miles of varied scenery, terrain and great hiking trails. There are many high lakes to explore or you may choose to conquer one of the Cascade peaks, which tower over 9,000 feet.
Another spectacular option is to hike a portion of one of the most scenic sections of the fabled Pacific Crest Trail as it travels through the majestic Cascade range. The trail is accessible just west of Sisters. Smith Rocks State Park, just north of Redmond, is at a lower elevation and offers great hiking year round by offering a roster of top flight climbing sites that attract sport climbers from all over the world. The beautiful basalt walls are noted for offering some of the best and most varied climbing in the nation. Local guides have beginning classes for those who have always wanted to try the sport.

Cascade Lakes National Scenic Byway
Begin this breathtaking scenic drive in Bend by heading south on Century Drive. This road is closed from November through May but during the summer you will drive past dozens of pristine mountain lakes and reservoirs. This drive also offers many popular hiking trails leading into the Three Sisters Wilderness area as well as some great fishing spots, so allow time to stop and play.

The Metolius River and Camp Sherman
The Metolius River, one of the nation’s largest spring-fed rivers, runs through the tiny community of Camp Sherman northwest of Sisters and is legendary for its stunning beauty and some of the best year-round fly-fishing in the world. The Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery is a fun place to learn about fish and to feed the fingerlings in the outdoor pools.

Newberry National Volcanic Monument
Start your trip here with a visit to the Lava Lands Visitor Center, five miles south of Bend. The visitor center provides an excellent orientation to the volcanic landscape with interpretive displays and guided tours. The heart of the monument is Newberry Crater, an 18 square mile caldera containing Paulina and East Lakes and beautiful Paulina Falls. A winding gravel road climbs to the top of Paulina Peak where you can take in a panoramic view of the Cascade Mountain range.

Crater Lake National Park
Crater Lake National Park, located about 100 miles south of Eagle Crest, is Oregon’s only National Park. While the park is open year round, most people plan their visits in the summer months. The park features fantastic Cascade mountain scenery, pristine forests, abundant wildlife, and the deepest lake in America, which rests inside a dormant volcano. Boat excursions around Wizard Island are a popular summer activity.
